My first triathlon was a huge learning experience for me. Overall I was satisfied with my results and actually did better in the swimming and cycling portions of the event. In the run however I “bonked?”
Like I said, it was a learning experience for me. I made a couple of mistakes that I think really cost me. One was in set up-the transition area. I knew from the pre-race information packets that there were not going to be aid stations on the bike portion. I knew to bring water bottles for the ride. However, in the pre-tri gitters, I failed to fill my water bottles on the bike (on the bright side, my bike was lighter, right).
My second mistake was not re-fueling (power gels, shots, etc…) any time during the bike or run sections (rookie mistake). So the end result was a “bonk”! I will learn for the next tri-the Olympic distant Provo Triathlon in 60 days.
It was a ton of fun that I hope to get some friends and colleagues into “tri-ing in the future.
Any ideas on how I can get my wife involved?
